foundaTion mOdels for Robots that haNdle smAll, soft and Deformable Objects | TORNADO — Project 101189557 — HORIZON-CL4-2024-DIGITAL-EMERGING-01

Funded by the European Union, TORNADO is developing a next-generation cloud robotics platform that empowers autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) to operate in complex, human-populated indoor environments. These intelligent robots will feature advanced navigation, adapt in real time, and handle small, soft, and deformable objects with exceptional precision.

TORNADO combines cutting-edge AI, deep neural foundation models, and augmented reality to enable intuitive interaction through voice and gestures. The system learns continuously through real-world feedback and supports rapid adaptation, even in unforeseen situations, making it ideal for non-repetitive, high-variability tasks.

TORNADO is working to validate use cases in a gears factory, hospital environment, and plant distribution center, paving the way for safe, efficient, and human-aware integration of robotics into everyday settings.

Project preparatory phase:
  • Selection of the Italian company suitable for a pilot case
  • Co-writing of the Dissemination and Exploitation WP, support to LP for the full proposal
Project implementation:
  • NSBproject leads the project’s dissemination and communication efforts, including the creation and management of the web presence and outreach activities​.
  • It supports the implementation of pilots by aligning research & technical goals with end users’ needs.
  • Additionally, NSBproject leverages its predictive matching system to facilitate connections between solution providers and end-users within the project’s ecosystem​.
