NSBproject contributes to New Framework for Measuring Industry 5.0 Transformation

  • 30 Maggio 2025

NSBproject is proud to be among the contributors to a groundbreaking new tool designed to help companies assess and accelerate their journey toward Industry 5.0.

The Industry 5.0 Assessment Framework, developed within the Horizon Europe-funded project PROSPECTS 5.0, introduces a comprehensive yet practical method to evaluate industrial transformation in terms of human-centricity, environmental sustainability, and resilience.

The framework was recently featured in an article by Il Sole 24 Ore, Italy’s leading financial newspaper, highlighting its potential to drive real change in the European manufacturing landscape. Developed with the involvement of key Italian partners—including NSBproject, the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore), and B. Braun Avitum Italy—the tool is the result of a collaborative effort to define what “Industry 5.0” truly means in practice.

It includes 28 key performance indicators across three strategic pillars:

  • Human-centricity: focusing on employee well-being, inclusion, and meaningful work.

  • Environmental sustainability: targeting energy efficiency, circular economy practices, and emissions reduction.

  • Industrial resilience: assessing robustness, adaptability, and digital maturity.

A notable case study featured in the article involves B. Braun Avitum’s plant in Mirandola, which has successfully implemented collaborative robotics to improve both operational efficiency and workplace ergonomics—an example of how Industry 5.0 principles can be translated into tangible benefits.

Despite the widespread interest in advanced technologies, the article notes that many Italian companies still face barriers in adopting inclusive and sustainable models. These include bureaucratic complexity and difficulties accessing public support. The new assessment tool aims to address these challenges by offering clear, actionable guidance.

Starting in 2026, the framework will be accessible to all European companies via a dedicated digital platform, enabling self-assessment and continuous improvement toward Industry 5.0 goals.

Andrea Jester, co-founder of NSBproject and innovation broker for PROSPECTS 5.0, emphasized the practical nature of the initiative:

PROSPECTS 5.0 is not just a research project but a concrete tool to guide companies and policymakers towards more human, digital, and sustainable industrial models.

NSBproject reaffirms its commitment to innovation and sustainable industrial growth, supporting organizations in designing future-ready, human-centered manufacturing systems.
